DESCRIPTION: APW - Elgin, Convertible model, 21J, Grade 91, three-finger bridge mvt, 16S, heavy 18K gold box hinge J&S (Jeannot & Shiebler) OF recase with crystal-carrying bezel beneath front box hinge bezel, gold cuvette and glazed observational mvt cover, white glass enamel DS canister-style (friction fit snap-on) dial, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, raised gold jewel settings, nickel damascene, s#942308. Gross weight of assembled watch 82.5 dwt (128.3 g). A superb example of this rare top grade, although the case is not the original to this movement, it is very well suited to the watch being of top quality, notably elegant appearance, and unusual design. The Grade 91 movement is quite rare, and we believe its total production was approximately 350 made as all examples we have observed have fallen neatly within the 942001 to 942350 serial range. From the collection of Dr. Robert Restuccia.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, setting mechanism with frequent skipping sensation when turned clockwise, nearly mint cosmetic mvt condition overall, bright lustrous surfaces with few mild micro-fine scratches; dial with edge flake near 2, smaller edge flake at 1:30, faint outer chapter hl at 1:30, very small scratch to right perimeter of seconds-register; excellent hands; case shows hardly any wear, no dents or dings, excellent engraving detail; tight bow, crown shows hardly any wear; good glass crystals.
ESTIMATE: $3000 - $5600
